Review

Nothing makes a statement as much as a great flashlight that shows people you know what you are talking about. However, better flashlights tend to be a little more expensive, but they have a variety of different features that your standard flashlight might not have. The Fenix Flashlights FX-PD35TAC Flashlight is made from aircraft-grade aluminum, with a non-abrasive coating that enhances the durability and adds some grip to the unit.
All of the materials also combine to make the unit function when it has fallen. On the front of the flashlight, you have tempered glass with a non-reflective coating. This allows the light to easily pass through without being blocked off. It also makes it more functional in other weather conditions to pierce the darkness. The IPX8 rating is one of the best you can give a flashlight to make it completely waterproof.

On the inside, you have a variety of different LED technology. However, the small LED lights are the main attraction and they can last for up to 50,000 hours before dying. When you consider that with the best batteries, the unit can be used for more than an hour on the brightest setting, you can use this flashlight for the rest of your life.

As you might have seen, it also features 6 different modes, which is a massive upgrade to the standard 4 modes we find in some of the top flashlights. The different brightness settings are a common sight with the strobe light, but the eco feature is ideal to conserve the batteries you have. Finally, you have an SOS setting that can be used if you do find yourself in any dangerous situation and need a signal.

At just over 3-ounces the flashlight is one of the lightest you will find with all of these features included. The maximum light setting of 1000 lumens can also be compared to many of the searchlights with handles that are harder to carry. However, this one is small and allows you to keep it on your person at all times.

Batteries

The batteries have some mixed feelings and while you can use a standard 18650 battery, the unit also allows you to add CR123A batteries when it dies out. These smaller batteries don’t have the same lifespan as the 18650 battery and you will be better off by using the best single battery to ensure you don’t run out of light.
One thing that many people neglect to look for is the aesthetics of the unit, and while this one has so many great features, that the look is not important, it is still one of the top units that you can use when you are showing off. We mentioned that the smaller size makes it pocket-friendly and you can carry it along all the time.

One of the features that many people often do not look for is the hardness o the flashlight. By now, you know what is the main materials, but the shape of the unit also means it can be used as a survival tool. You can use the back of it to smash out the windows of your car or any other glass object that might be trapping you, without the flashlight breaking.

What We Like:

  • Compact design for carrying in your pocket
  • Uses multiple different batteries
  • Incredibly durable for all condition types and situations
  • The flashlight can be used as a survival tool
  • Lights will last up to 50,000 hours
  • 6 modes are more than you will probably need

What We Didn’t Like:

  • It is fairly expensive
  • Does not have the best battery life

Should You Buy The Flashlight?

Many people are happy with their standard flashlights and they occasionally use them when they are outdoors. However, the avid camper or backpacker will know the worth of a great flashlight like the Fenix Flashlights FX-PD35TAC Flashlight. It does not have any real drawbacks that should keep you from buying it or trying it out.
It might be a little expensive, but once you have bought it, you will never need to buy another flashlight again. You might need to stock up on a lot of batteries, but that will be your only real additional expense from this flashlight. We would have liked to see a rechargeable battery included to help keep down the costs of batteries in the long-term.
